Jazz Sax Player Records Album at BOP STOP with Orchestra of Local All-Stars

Sat 3/29 @ 7PM & 9:30PM

Thirty-two-year old tenor sax player/composer/arranger/educator Stephen Philip Harvey is based in Maryland, but he’s coming to Cleveland to record what will be his eighth album release, and his second with the Stephen Philip Harvey Jazz Orchestra. (He’s recorded with a trio, quintet and octet as well.) His music is rooted in jazz but also brings in elements of pop, hip hop, funk, rock and gospel.

So why is he recording the new album, already titled Multiverse, here in Cleveland? Likely because it’s where he could find a critical mass of top-flight musicians to join him (perhaps connections from his days at Youngstown State University where he earned his music master’s degree in 2016. It’s quite a collection of players, 17 in all, including such noted names as Bobby Selvaggio and Chris Coles on saxes, Tommy Lehman on trumpet, Dan Bruce on guitar and Jordan McBride on bass — all well known to local jazz fans. And many more!

The ensemble will perform the material twice in two separate shows. You can come to either one for $20, or both for a bargain $30. Go here for tickets and more info.
