For their next concert at the Maltz Performing Arts Center, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will be hosting yet another special guest. This time its drummer/composer/educator and three-time Grammy winner Terri Lyne Carrington, who has built up a sensational resume since her graduation from Boston’s esteemed Berklee School of Music. (Now she’s the founder/director of its Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.)
Like many outstanding musicians, she came from a musical family where her talents were encouraged early on. After graduation, she headed for NYC where she performed with jazz greats such Stan Getz, Pharoah Sanders, David Sanborn and Lester Bowie, just the first of a long list of big-name artists she’s played with over 40 years. In tht time, she’s won countless awards and released dozen albums as a leader or co-leader.
At this concert, called The Pulse of Progress, CJO will be performing world premieres of some of Carrington’s big band arrangements.
