Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District Sells Native Plant Kits to Help Our Ecosystem

Once again, the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is helping us help the environment by selling native plant kits with flowers, grasses and sedges, designed for different areas and uses. Each contains 50 plugs with ten or more native species designed to bloom over the whole season. Kits include complete information on plants included including growing information and cover about 100 square feet. Choose from Prairie Garden Kit, Prairie Grass Kit, Shade Kit, Rain Garden Kit, Purple Rain Garden Kit, Monarch Garden Kit, Low-Profile Garden Kit and Keystone Pollinator Kit.

They remind us that native species establish faster and are hardier because they’re better suited to the local climate. So they require less water, fertilizer and pesticide, as well as provide a habitat for pollinators and native animals.

Order deadline is March 21. Go here to order.

In addition, CSWD is offering a series of Master Rain Gardener classes if you’d like to delve into this method of recycling rainwater to reduce runoff and flooding and help control pollutants. It includes four classes on Tuesdays March 11-April 1 at the Highland Heights Community Center.  Go here for more information.
