Cleveland’s Oblivion Project Performs Music by Argentinian Tango Great Astor Piazzolla

Fri 3/28 @ 7:30PM

Tango is one of the musical genres whose appeal never seems to diminish. And the influence of Argentinian composer/arranger/bandoleon player Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), who invented modern tango by introducing elements of jazz and classical music and introducing new instruments still looms large.

The Oblivion Project was formed in 2003 in Cleveland as a tribute to his work, which included more than 3,000 pieces. It includes some of this area’s top musicians, and it’s done 19 tours of the Midwest and performed at numerous northeast Ohio venues including Severance Hall. Next up is the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, where it will be joined by Argentinian opera singer Malena Dayen who’ll provide the vocals for the six-piece ensemble.
