Kyle-Jean Baptiste graduates from Baldwin Wallace University’s nationally celebrated music theatre program in 2015, and like a many of its students, he headed for New York where he landed on Broadway, becoming the youngest actor to play to Jean Valjean in Les Misérables the summer after his graduation. He was tapped to join the Broadway production of The Color Purple that September, mere months after his graduation, when he accidentally fell from a New York fire escape and died at the age of 21, putting an end to what could’ve been a meteoric acting career.
Two years later, the BW Music Theatre Department held its first annual Kyle Jean-Baptiste concert, benefiting the Kyle-Jean Baptiste Scholarship Fund. The tradition continues. This year, students from all classes in BW’s music theatre department will perform songs meaningful to them from a variety of genres at Market Garden Brewery’s Spirit Room.
