Sun 4/6 @ 4PM

Tue 4/8 @ 7:30PM

Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, is ending its 2024-2025 season with eclat: what it’s calling a month-long “mini-festival,” devoted to one of the most popular composers, Johann Sebastian Bach.

It launches with a series of four concerts in which an orchestra of 25 musicians, the Apollo’s Singers chorus, and seven vocal soloists with perform Bach’s brilliant Mass in B Minor under the direction of the group’s artistic director Jeannette Sorrell. The orchestra will include period instruments, Apollo’s Fire’s specialty, a rare chance to hear the Bach mass performed this way.

Vocal soloists include soprano Rebecca Myers, mezzo-sopranos Aryssa Leigh Burrs and Gabriela Estephanie Solís, contralto Emily Marvosh, tenor Jacob Perry and baritones Edward Vogel & Charles Wesley Evans.

They’ll perform at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Akron on Friday April 4; at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland Saturday April 5 and Tuesday April 8; and at St. Christopher Parish in Rocky River on Sunday April 6. All performances will feature a pre-concert talk by Michael Marissen an hour before the performance. Friday and Saturday concerts will also have a post-concert Afterglow reception where ticketholders can meet and mingle with the musicians and enjoy some light treats.

Other events during the month include free family concerts April 25-30; in-school workshops; and Bach’s Coffee Cantata Baroque Bistros at BLU Jazz+ in Akron and the Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland May 3-4
