Akron Art Museum Holds Opening Party for “She Said She Said: Contemporary Women Artists”

Fri 3/21 @ 7-9PM

Celebrate women in the arts at The Akron Art Museum’s opening party for their latest exhibition, She Said, She Said: Contemporary Women Artists. The party includes light hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, entertainment by DJ Wilma Shakes, and a chance to jump into a photo booth. Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion, so boot up the old Pinterest board and channel your favorite women artists.

She Said, She Said will feature more than 30 artists, showcasing works from the 1960s to the present. The exhibition explores themes of self-representation, cultural roles, sexuality, autonomy, abstraction and interventions via a range of mediums, such as painting, photography, video, sculpture, textiles, and large-scale installation. The artwork aims to be expressive, described by the Akron Art Museum’s website as,  “Celebratory, critical, and often intimate, creating a dynamic experience that shifts from room to room and artwork to artwork.”

Visit the museum’s lobby for Guerrilla art-style wheat pasting on a collaborative mural and femme button making, to screen print an exhibition logo onto a pennant banner, and watch a large-scale fiber art demonstration.

Tickets are free for Akron Art Museum members and are $20 for nonmembers who can purchase tickets here.

The show will be on view through August 10.
