John Carroll University’s radio station WJCU 88/7 FM has been hosting its annual Blizzard Bash for many years — 17 to be exact. Its goal is to raise money to benefit The Hunger Network which provides meals to people in need across northeast Ohio. Last year it raised enough to provide 12,000 meals, and it’s hoping to do better this year.
If you’d like to be part of this effort, come on down to the WJCU Blizzard Bash at the Beachland Tavern this weekend. Not only will you be doing something good, but you’ll get to hear some great local music, including powerful R&B singer Esther Fitz, JT’s Sparks Trio, fronted by versatile jazz/funk/pop trumpet player Justin Tibbs, Ziggy D of C-Level and Mr. Carnivor.
It’s an all-ages show and admission is a donation of just $10 — and you can give more if you’re so moved — a mere $25 provides about 75 meals.
“Hunger doesn’t end in December, the time of giving is truly year-round,” WJCU events director Zachary Sinutko reminds us, referencing the season when everyone is demanding donations for hungry people. “Last year was amazing, but there is more work to be done, and I know we can break the record” referring to the over 12,000 meals donated from last year’s event.
