Some string quartets have lengthy histories dating back 40 0r 50 years or more, with many members changes. On the other hands, the Isidore String Quartet is just beginning to write its history. It was founded in 2019 when its members were students at New York’s Juilliard School with a mission to make their music accessible to all. No sooner had they formed than they faced the pandemic, but the 14th Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2022 and the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2023 restored momentum they may have lost.
They’ll be performing as the guest of the Akron’s Tuesday Musical Association, making their Akron debut at EJ Thomas Hall. They’ll perform Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F major and Gabriella Smith’s Carrot Revolution. Then they’ll be joined by internationally noted pianist Jeremy Denk, an Oberlin Conservatory graduate, class of 1990 and also a winner of the Avery Fisher Prize, as well as a MacArthur Fellowship, for Johannes Brahms’ Quintet for Piano and Strings in F minor.
