There isn’t much that’s sweeter than the spectacular shows put on by Cleveland Burlesque at the Beachland Ballroom, and its annual Sweetheart Showcase, taking place each year around Valentine’s Day, is one of its sweetest.

This year’s theme is “This Is Burlesque,” a Tribute to Ann Corio (1909-1999), honoring one of the legendary stars of the genre whose burlesque heyday was the 1920s and 30s. By the 40s she’d gone to Hollywood where she became a pin-up style actress during World War II. She later returned to the live stage, where she directed and performed in a 1962 Broadway production called This Was Burlesque.

Thanks to groups such as Cleveland Burlesque and performers such as its founder, Cleveland’s Burlesque queen Bella Sin, burlesque has dropped the “was” and has enjoyed a major revival in recent years. If you come to this show, you’ll learn why when you see the cast of diverse, skillful, glamourous, entertaining and sumptuously costumed (lots of rhinestones!) performers.

The special guest performer is Charlotte, NC’s Edie Edison. Other performers include Bella Sin herself, Lakota Shekar, Heather and Lace, and Lana La Mala, with surprise guests and others to be added. Get your tickets now as Cleveland Burlesque kicks off its 21st season.
