In 2020, Ohio designated the February 18th birthday of Lorain-born author Toni Morrison, who died in 2019 at the age of 88, as Toni Morrison Day in Ohio. It recognized literary legacy of the author of such acclaimed works as The Bluest Eye, Beloved, Sula and Song of Solomon. She was widely celebrated in her lifetime, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the Nobel Prize in Literature and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.
Once again Glenville’s ThirdSpace Reading Room will celebrate Morrison with its annual Toni Morrison Community Reading, taking place on her February 18 birthday.
City Club CEO Dan Moulthrop and Case Western Reserve University Associate Professor of Religious Studies Dr. Joy R. Bostic will host the evening with tributes to Morrison by featured readers, followed by an open mic where all are free to share their favorite Morrison passage or some of their own work, inspired by Morrison.
It’s free and open to all. Register here.
