Thu 2/6 @ 7-9PM
Back in 1992, Germany/Hungarian musician/producer Leslie Mandoki presided over the first rendition of his project Mandoki Soulmates, enlisting Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, Cream bassist Jack Bruce, jazz guitarist Al Di Meola, and Blood Sweat and Tears vocalist David Clayton-Thomas, among others. Since then, he’s hosted many iterations of this jazz/prog rock project, drawing musicians from bands such as Supertramp, Toto, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Rainbow, and name musicians such as Chaka Khan, Eric Burdon and Peter Frampton. But Mandoki’s own history is as enthralling as the list of musicians he’s played with. He was raised in Soviet Hungary where he was arrested many times as a dissenter before escaping first to Germany and later the U.S.
Mandoki will be at the Rock Hall, along with singer/songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist Tony Carey and, in 2021, became a member of Mandoki Soulmates. There will be a short film, and then the two will tell stories and perform some material from the Mandoki Soulmates repertoire. A book and album signing will follow the performance. Tickets include a copy of the book 30 Years of Mandoki Soulmates.
