Grammy-Winning Jazz Guitarist Mark Whitfield Performs in Ohio City

Fri 2/21 & Sat 2/22 @ 7:30PM

New York-based jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield was part of the Christian McBride Big Band which won a 2022 Grammy for the album For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver. It was only the latest collaboration between Whitfield and McBride who had been working together for more than 30 years.

Following his graduation from the noted Berklee School of Music in Boston, Whitfield went on to a thriving career that included performing and/or recording with noted jazz musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Smith, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Clark Terry and the Marsalis Brothers, as well pop artists such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Ray Charles, John Mayer, Gladys Knight and Burt Bacharach. Jazz guitarist George Benson was a significant mentor.  He’s also made 16 solo recordings.

Whitfield will be playing for two nights at Ohio City’s Market Garden Brewery/Ohio City Room with a trio that includes bassist James Genus and drummer Charles Goold. They’re presented by JWP Concerts in collaborations with the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society.
