The weather’s going to be chilly for a while long, but there’s a good way to warm up: head to Chagrin Falls for the monthly Bainbridge Swing Dance at the Family Life Center there. It’s an all-ages, all-types-of-people event for both experiences dancers and novices, an evening where you can learn some new steps, meet new people, socialize and hear some of the most infectious live music around played by some of the region’s best bands.
The evenings start at 8pm with a dance lesson. So don’t worry if you barely have any idea what swing dancing actually is — they’ll teach you. Experienced dancers are always on hand, eager to help the novices.
At 9pm, Pittsburgh’s Dr. Zoot will hit the stage The seven-piece, horn-driven band, which mixes jazz, pop, R&B, swing, jump blues, funk, Latin and early rock in a lively danceable mix that’s both retro and contemporary, has become a favorite at these dances, making an annual appearance on the roster. They’re old hands at this — they’ve been together since 1998 and have earned a national and even international reputation.
They’ll play from 9-11 giving dancers two hours to polish the steps they’ve just learned. Come alone, come with a friend or significant other, come as a family — dancers change partners all night. And yes, kids are welcome. Go here for more information.
