Dancing Wheels’ Signature Benefit A Night at the Races Is Back

Sat 3/1 @ 6:30PM

Cleveland’s Dancing Wheels ensemble brings something truly unique to the local arts scene. The pioneering company, founded in 1980 by wheelchair dancer Mary Verdi Fletcher, was the first professional company in the U.S. to present choreography and performances that blend “stand-up” and “sit-down” (wheelchair dancers) performing together.

One of the big fundraisers the company hosts every year is its Night at the Races, which gives supporters the chance to hang out, socialize and do a little gambling while knowing profits go to a worthy cause and not billionaire casino interests.

It starts with general admission of $30 per person, which this year includes pizza, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

(You can bring your own alcoholic beverages.) After that you can lay down your money to participate in various “races” or sponsor a race, as well as participate in a reverse raffle and a “bucket of booze” raffle. There’ll also be 50-50 and lotto ticket raffle sideboards throughout the evening.

It takes place this year at the Majestic Hall, a party center next door to Dancing Wheels’ studios on Euclid Avenue. Go here for tickets and more information.
