Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Low Power Happy Hour evenings are networking and education events, offering drinks and panel discussions about sustainability in northeast Ohio.
This month’s event revolves around the Green Book, a guide for Black travelers published from the mid 30s to the mid 60s that listed establishments ranging from hotels and restaurants to gas stations and barber shops where their business was welcome. Green Book Cleveland is a history project to document these sites in northeast Ohio. (In Cleveland many clustered around East 55th and Central, now devoid of any signs of them; two building remain on Cedar Avenue though — the Phillis Wheatley Association, now a community center and apartments for seniors, and the long-shuttered YMCA.)
The panel discussion will be moderated by Ranger Arrye Rosser, an interpretive and education specialist with CVNP, and feature speakers Mordecai Cargill of ThirdSpace Action Lab, Mark Souther and Bali White of Cleveland State University, Michelle Camou of the Akron Zoo, Dr. Megan Shaeffer of Summit Metro Parks, and Hazim Abdullah-Smith of Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The event kicks off at 5pm with cocktails and networking. The panel discussion starts at 5:30 followed by a Q&A, and then more cocktails and networking from 6:45-7pm. It takes place at CVNP’s Happy Days Lodge. Go here to get tickets.
