Cleveland’s Alla Boara is a band on the move. Founded by local drummer/composer Anthony Taddao, it features some of the area’s best younger (mostly) jazz players to perform music that’s totally unique in this area, and according to Taddao, in the whole country. It’s based on Alan Lomax’s 1954 Smithsonian Folkways field recordings of nearly extinct Italian folk tunes, which the band filters through its impressive jazz chops. If that sounds esoteric, it’s not in practice: they give the music a contemporary twist, drawing on jazz, rock and world music. And even if you don’t know anything about Italian folk songs or understand Italian, they share the stories with the audience.
The quartet version of the band will be performing at the Music Box Supper Club for an evening that’s sure to entertaining, lively and musically impressive. Get tickets here.
