The Cleveland International Film Festival doesn’t just promote its big annual festival (March 27-April 5), it also presents smaller events throughout the year.
This week it will honor Black History Month with a program taking. Place at Cleveland Heights-University Heights High School with a group of films called “Our Story Our Song” that focus on the multitude of Black achievements in music.
Films include the 2024 film Soundtrack to a Coup D’Etat, the story of American musicians Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach crashing a UN Security Council meeting in response to the 1961 murder of Congolese politician Patrice Lumumba; the 2018 film Mr. Soul!, about the public television show SOUL! (1968-1973) which showcased a range of Black culture; and God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines from 2022, about the Detroit techno scene.
There’s an afterparty from 7-10pm across the street at CLE Urban Winery. Get tickets here.
