For the third year, the City of Cleveland is mounting a Black History Month exhibition at City Hall. The theme of this year’s show is “African Americans and labor,” and the exhibit is called Artists Run the Streets™ BHMX Edition: Black History Month Excellence.

It features the work of Cleveland artists Christa Freehands, Chris Goody, Ryan Harris, Mike Miller, Sampson Smiley, and Lacy Talley. It’s part of the seven Transformative Art Fund projects announced last year where an artist-led team was awarded a significant sum of money to create a public-facing arts project.

The press release tells us that “This curated installation combines visual narratives and interactive elements to spark dialogue, reflection, and connection. Attendees will explore how each artist interprets labor and legacy, diving into themes of perseverance, identity, and pride.”

The show will open with a reception taking place at City Hall Thursday September 6, featuring refreshments, a DJ and the chance to meet the participating artists. Register to attend here. The exhibit will be up through May 30, viewable during regular City Hall business hours.
