Italian musician Paolo Angeli has a wide range of talents. He’s a guitarist, composer, instrument builder and ethnomusicologist with a specialty in traditional Sardinian music. His own music pushes boundaries: he composes for prepared guitar, described as “a hybrid instrument with strings going in all directions foot-pedal-controlled motorized propellers, and hammers,” on which he produces an array of layered nontraditional sounds augmented with electronic effects. He improvises as he plays, incorporating free jazz, Arabic music, flamenco, Sardinian music and more. He’s made over 50 records.
When he performs at the Cleveland museum of Art’s Transformer Station, he’ll be performing material from his more recent albums including 2023’s Nijar, 2022’s Rade, 2021’s Jar’a and 2019’s 22.22 Free Radiohead.
