1978 Film “The Deerhunter,” Partly Filmed in Tremont, Screens for Free in Tremont

Sat 2/15 @ 5-8PM (doors 4:30)

The 1978 movie The Deer Hunter reflected on the impact of the Vietnam war just five years after its official end revolving around its impact on three steelworkers from western Pennsylvania who served and how it affected their lives.

Famously for locals, several scenes were filled in Cleveland, including its almost hour-long wedding scene filmed at St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Tremont, as well as a banquet scene filmed at nearby Lemko Hall and some scenes inside a steel mill. Meryl Streep played a supporting role in the film, just her second screen appearance, and earned her first Oscar nomination for it.

If you missed this bit of Cleveland cinematic history or want to relive it (maybe you were an extra!), the Tremonbt History Project is screening it for free at Pilgrim Church. Doors open at 4:30 for the 4-8pm screening — the film runs three hours! Go here for more information and tickets.
