Violinist Ed Caner & multi-instrumentalist David Mayfield are two northeast Ohio musicians with diverse musical interests. Caner played in experimental rock bands in the 90s but he’s also played classical music on the side while moonlighting from his day job as a physics professor. In the last 15 or so years, he’s joined his wife Laurie Michelle Caner in the American roots music band Hey Mavis whose music is influenced by jazz, blues, folk, country and rock and he has an acoustic band with his son called the Scuppers who do Irish tunes and sea shanties.
Mayfield also has a diverse background: he started performing with his parents’ bluegrass group as a child but since then, he’s become known for playing indie rock and country-infused Americana and going back to his roots in straight-ahead bluegrass.
The duo will perform a sure-to-be-entertaining set at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge Sunday January 26. Go here for tickets.
