Vanity Crash devoted their annual David Bowie birthday tribute concert to telling the story of David Bowie’s connection to Cleveland, and in particular how Cleveland was the market that launched him to stardom. The multi-media presentation featured background on how Cleveland became the first market to embrace Bowie, and hosted the first concert he played in the U.S. in September 1972. The program included video interviews with WMMS DJs Denny Sanders and Billy Bass who were responsible for Bowie’s early airplay, and with Spiders from Mars band members Mike Garson and Woody Woodmansey, among others.
On Friday night at the BOP STOP the band was joined by Kate Hart and Meg Stepka from Moon Echo Garden. On Sunday at the Beachland Tavern, their special guest was Alison Garrigan who performed with Vanity Crash frontman Dennis van Crash in the band Queue-Up back in the 90s.
