Thu 1/30 @ 7PM
Charlie Wiener (real name: Kim Zonneville) was a mainstay in the local music scene in the 1970s, starting out as an acoustic performer at clubs like the Grapes of Wrath. He also performed his satirical folk pop with his band the Fun Buns, who nailed their place in rock music history when they backed David Thomas (then known as Crocus Behemoth) as the first lineup of Rocket from the Tombs which became Pere Ubu. (They split when Crocus decided he was an artiste while the Fun Buns were just having … fun.) Wiener released several albums and singles of his music in the 70s before taking another turn: he hit the road doing the national circuit as a full-time stand-up comedian. He only recently retired from the road, and has been devoting himself to authoring novels, biographies and a children’s book.
Wiener will talk about his eclectic career when he tells his road stories as part of the Music Box Supper Club’s Cleveland Stories series. Doors open at 5pm for dinner, with storytelling starting at 7. Admission is free; both the regular menu and a fixed-price three-courtse dinner will be available. Make reservations here.
