KSU Show Features World by Alum Textile Artist Hildur Jónsson

Thu 1/23 @ 5PM

Northeast Ohio-based textile artist Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson’s work is striking and distinctive. To create it she paints the warp and weft, then weaves them together to create the light-filled, abstract imagery inspired by the distinctive, dramatic landscape of her native Iceland, where she returns regularly while living in the Cleveland area. Her work has been seen in many shows, locally, nationally and even internationally.

Now the Kent State University will be presenting more than 30 of her large-scale works in a show called    Micro/Macro. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Jónsson who got her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in KSU’s textile program.

“We are excited to exhibit Hildur Jónsson’s work here at Kent State, where her artistic journey began over three decades ago,” says museum director Sarah Spinner Liska in the museum’s press release. “Her work has been shown around the world and it is time for a homecoming exhibition that will undoubtedly inspire current students in their own creative journeys.” The show will open with a public reception and artist talk on Thursday January 23 @ 5pm.
