Experimental Duo Night Terrors Brings New Music to the BOP STOP

Thu 1/23 @ 7PM

Cleveland duo Night Terrors drops into the BOP STOP several times a year, and when they do, they never sound the exact same way twice, Akron guitarist Tim Mirth and percussionist Paul Stranahan have each played in numerous projects in a variety of genres including jazz, avant-garde music and metal. As Night Terrors, they bring together all their influences into open-ended compositions with lots of space for the improvisational explorations that fuel their music. Mirth tinkers with the sound of his guitar, using multiple effects, while Stranahan is known for expanding his drum kit with gongs and Tibetan singing bowls.

For their upcoming show, they’ll be doing a set of compositions where Stranahan will play keyboard percussion (marimba and aluphone) and Mirth will play acoustic guitar, before moving back to their drums and gongs, and electric guitar for one of their “freeform freakouts.” They’re in the process of mixing and editing new recordings of their marimba/acoustic guitar material in both audio and video, so this will give their fans a first listen.
