Dobama’s “The Hot Wing King” Explores the Lives of Black Gay Men

Fri 1/24-Sun 2/16

In Dobama Theatre’s next show, Katori Hall’s 2020 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy The Hot Wing King, Cordell, his boyfriend Dwayne and their friends Big Charles and Isom are cooking up a batch of wings for a contest that Cordell has entered at the Memphis Hot Wang Festival. But Dwayne’s nephew shows up and then things don’t go as planned. Hall wrote the play, she has said, to explore the lives of gay Black men.

Sheffia Randall-Nickerson, who has worked at Karamu, Playhouse Square and currently University Circle Inc, directed the Dobama production, which opens on Friday January 24 (with a preview on Thursday January 23) and runs through Sunday February 16.
