Cleveland’s No Exit New Music ensemble, which specializes in presenting newly composed pieces as well as avant-garde compositions that influenced those composers, has collaborated for the past decade with the similarly minded St. Paul ensemble Zeitgeist, and done exchanges with them, performing in both cities. And this weekend it’s bringing its Minnesota friends back to Cleveland for three performances.
As usual, the two ensembles will be presenting a flock of world premiere works, along with pieces by two predecessors: legendary 20th century avant-gardist John Cage and Korean composer Jin Hi Kim. The new works include compositions by No Exit members James Praznik and Timothy Beyer, as well as Canadian composer Christopher Goddard and Luis Daniel Jiménez, who is based in Mexico City, for a series of evenings that Beyer, No Exit’s artistic director, describes as offering “a compelling and colorful program that’s international in scope.” Sax player David Milne will join the groups’ musicians.
They’re perform at Cleveland State’s Drinko Hall on Thursday; at the BOP STOP on Friday; and at Heights Arts on Saturday. No Exit’s concerts are always free and open to all who are looking for some fresh sounds.
