Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and The Musical Theater Project Pay Tribute to the Gershwin’s

Sat 1/25 @ 7:30PM

Once again for the ninth year, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and The Musical Theater Project will be presenting a collaborative concert, this one dedicated to the legacy of two of the greatest 20th century songwriters: the brother team of Ira (lyricist) and George (composer) Gershwin. Called “The Gerschwins Are Girl Crazy,” It revolves around their 1930 musical Girl Crazy, which launched the careers of Ethel Merman and Ginger Rogers, and features songs such “Bidin’ My Time,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Embraceable You,” and “But Not for Me.”

Paul Ferguson, artistic director of CJO, and Bill Rudman, artistic director of TMTP, will offer narrative background on the music, which revolves around a young man’s project to turn the family ranch into a lively dude ranch, featuring copious entertainment. The musicians, including the Joe Hunter Trio, five horn players from CJO, and vocalists Evelyn Wright, Erin Kufel Keckan and Michael Shirtz, will perform the entire score.

The event takes place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Get tickets here.
