Burns Night Celebrates the Birthday of Scotland’s National Poet Robert Burns

Fri 1/24 @ 6PM

Robert Burns (1759-1796) is regarded as the national poet of Scotland, a major influence of Scottish literature and the wider Romantic movement, with his works an almost universally known reference point in his native country. Although some are in dialect, many, such as “Auld Lang Syne” and “A Red, Red Rose,” are familiar internationally and have expanded his cult of admirers well beyond Scotland, to places such as Cleveland where Market Garden Brewery will be celebrating Burns night for the 11th year, honoring his January 25th birthday.

The evening will feature a full buffet dinner, with shepherd’s pie, roasted root vegetables, shortbread and not one, but TWO, types of Scotland’s national dish, haggis, a concoction made from sheep’s organs stuffed back into its stomach. You don’t have to try it. Each ticket includes a pint of Wallace Tavern Scotch Ale to wash down that Haggis! There will of course be a poetry reading, as well as a bagpiper leading the Parading of the Haggis. Kilt wearing. Is definitely not discouraged.

Doors open at 5:30, with the buffet opening at 7. Get your tickets here.
