Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Speaks at the City Club

Mon 12/9 @ 5PM

Current Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration Pete Buttigieg may or may not be the future of the Democratic Party but it’s not because he isn’t trying. At just 35 years old, with his highest political office being mayor of Indiana’s 4th largest city South Bend, and few able to pronounce his name, he threw his hat in the ring or chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He was just 37 (and still had held no higher office than mayor of that very small city) when he announced a run for president and ended up being one of the last candidates to drop out before Joe Biden became the candidate.

Many Democrats fell in love with his combination of sleek privilege (Notre Dame professor parents, Harvard, Oxford, Rhodes Scholar, white male) with a frisson of unconventionality — he’s gay. Smart but inexperienced, he wisely took the job in Biden’s administration.

He’s also a skillful speaker and he’s now got some real experience under his belt to make what he says more pragmatic and less theoretical. When he joins the City Club, where he first spoke in 2019, he’ll be able to talk with authority about the many improvements in the country’s transportation system delivered by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Cleveland Director of City Planning Joyce Pan Huang moderates.

It is sold out of course, but you can listen to the live stream for free, starting at 5pm, on the City Club’s website. Go here.
