New Year’s Eve isn’t quite what it used to be, with every club hosting an expensive party with jacked-up prices that got you snacks, a plastic cup of cheap champagne and a noisemaker — maybe a silly foil hat if you were lucky.
You’ll have to bring your own hat and noisemaker to the Beachland Ballroom on New Year’s Eve, where a reasonable $20 will get you performances from three of the area’s plethora of outstanding musical artists. Headliner Collin Miller & The Brother Nature is a dynamic R&B ensemble fronted by vocalist Miller who has a powerful wail; they’ll be performing the music of Sly & the Family Stone. Hello! 3D was founded in 2019 by guitarist/keyboard player Jacob Fader, who formerly led electro Afrobeat band Mifune. Hello!3D took an entirely different direction: high-energy instrumental music influenced by styles from Peru and Colombia. It includes some of the area’s best veteran musicians playing music you can’t sit still to.
The bill is rounded out by Chayla Hope, who made an impression a decade ago as the lynchpin of indie rockers Seafair before striking out on her own and reinventing herself as a confessional pop diva with her 2022 album, Damn, Feelings.
To make it a little more New Year’s Eve-ish, there will be a ball drop and visuals by Goo La Goon. Get those not-very-pricy tickets here.
