The Lustre Kings Bring Elvis Birthday Tour to the Beachland

Wed 1/8 @ 8PM

If he hadn’t died in 1977 at the age 42, Elvis Presley, the singer who shook up rock and roll, would be turning 89 on January 8. Presley still has many fans, old and new, who celebrate that day each year. That includes the band the Lustre Kings, once again on their Elvis Birthday Bash Tour which stops at the Beachland this week.

It’s appropriate because the band, which formed in the mid ’90s, specializes in ’50s-influenced rock, and band leader Mark Gamsjager, even serving as the touring band for ’50s rockabilly queen (and Rock Hall inductee) Wanda Jackson. Few bands can capture the sound and vibe for Elvis’s breakout era as well as this band does, with its large repertoire of ’50s classics by artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison and Hank Williams, as well as The King.
