The Blitz of Holiday Markets Begins — Get Your Money Ready

Mulberry Creek Herb Family Greenhouse

Fri 12/6-Sun 12/8

Get that Christmas gift list together: this weekend and next are the time to hit the makers markets to find handmade local items that most likely won’t be duplicated by other gift-givers and whose purchase will help the local creative economy.

Morgan Conservatory’s Maker’s Exhibition replaces its annual Christmas show but will feature much of the same type of paper-based work, contributed by its members. It will also expand the offerings in its shop. Come to its opening reception Friday December 8 from 5-8pm. It will be open through January 10 though Morgan’s regular hours.

On Friday December 6 and Saturday December 7 from 10am-4pm come down to the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse for an eco-friendly arts sale featuring mostly items handmade from upcycled materials, including dolls, jewelry, ornaments, paintings, cacti in found vessels, and hand-crafted and painted clothing. Poinsettias will also be available, and each new membership gets a free pointsetta. There’ll be food vendors from 11am-2pm, and artist LindaZolten Wood will be doing painted rain barrel demonstration. Admission and parking are free, and you can tour the greenhouse which you should do if you’ve never been there.

The Cleveland Bazaar’s big, overwhelming market takes place next weekend at 78th Street Studios for those who like an infinite number of vendors to shop. If you like things a bit more manageable, this weekend Cleveland Bazaar has its market at Lake Affect Studios with a small number of vendors, but still an array of amazing things to shop. In addition, some of the artists who work in the building will have their doors open. There’s a full bar too if you need to take a break and have a drink. It runs from 10am-6pm.

The LGBT Center’s Queer the Halls Market is back with more than 60 vendors of fine art, handcrafts and local products — prints, cards, jewelry, plants, pottery and more — made by LGBTQ+ artists and allies.  It takes place Saturday December 7 from 11am-5pm, and it’s a friendly place to hang out, find one-of-kind gifts and find out what state everyone’s moving to if our legislature keeps wasting our time and tax dollars persecuting trans kids.

When the Artcraft Building was sold to the city of Cleveland a few years ago to be the new central police headquarters, the many artists who made the building home scattered, with a chunk of them moving a bit to the northeast to the Twist Drill Building. That’s where the long-running Artcraft artists holiday show, now called the Artists at the Twist Holiday Show, takes place, in a spacious event space with big windows instead of smaller spaces scattered on different floors, making shopping a much better experience. It’s the 36th annual show, the third in the new space. The resident artists augment their sale with some friends for a total of around 60 diverse artists. It takes place on Saturday December 7 from10am-6pm and Sunday December8  from 11am to 5pm.

Out in Huron at Mulberry Creek Herb Farm, they’ll be celebrating their German-style Christkindlmarkt Saturday December 7 from 1oam-5pm and Sunday December 8 from 10am-4pm. It will feature local artisans, windowsill and centerpiece plants, Karen’s spice blends and German mustard, German cookies, hot cocoa and tea, a catered German menu, wine tasting, and a 12 Days of Christmas raffle, as well as carols by the Huron High School Troubadour Choir — all in the warm and toasty greenhouse.
