Jilly’s Screens Video of the HiFis’ Last Show

Sun 12/8 @ 7PM

In October 2023, two members of early 80s Akron band the HiFis died within a week of each other — lead guitarist Denny Coyle and singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Chuck Keith, leaving only bassist Tony Bray and drummer Rich Roberts from the original quartet.  And they had just played a reunion show at Jilly’s Music Box two months earlier.

Luckily that show was video streamed with an audio multitrack recording. That audio has now been mixed to higher quality and synched with the video so that the show can be enjoyed in perpetuity. It features 12-songs, along with four from a February 2023 show.

Now the video will be screened at a special show at Jilly’s. Roberts will be there, along with other Akron-area music legends: Jack Kidney of the Numbers Band, Harvey Gold of Tin Huey, Tren Housman and Tracy Thomas currently of the Crones and formerly of early 80s new wave band Unit 5, to play a handful of Keith’s songs.

The show is free; they’ll be taking a collection for the HiFis Legacy Fund.
