Jam Bands Unite for Solstice Music and Arts Festival

Sat 12/21 @ 7PM

Every region seems to have its big jam band and for Dayton, that’s the Werks, ca quartet founded in 2005. Sure., they may not CALL themselves a “jam band”— in some circles that tag is considered unhip or confining. But when they tout their multi-generic influences and their propensity for exploratory “improvisation,” meaning stretching out their tunes, and they’re regulars on jam-oriented festivals AND they encourage fans to tape their shows as they vary from night to night, you know what you’re dealing with — and so does their army of fans.

They’re be heading the Solstice Music & Arts Festival, taking place at the Beachland Ballroom & Tavern (both stages). Other bands include funky Cleveland trio Vibe & Direct, Cleveland “instrumental adventurers” Colour Phase, “experimental groove band” Otterbahn, and Solternal, all bands with a similar mindset. We’re guessing that the “arts” part involves vendors because what would a jam band event be without them?
