Sun 1/5 @ 8PM

The Grog Shop, one of the area’s premiere showcase clubs since 1992, has had an annual tradition to kick off the year: its free weekend, when it features several days of mostly local bands, many, if not most, of them lesser known artists you can check out without it costing you anything, and maybe discover a new favorite. In fact, we’d only heard of one of the acts on this year’s three showcases.

The weekend kicks off Friday with three indie rock bands — Liquid Images, newish band from some area music scene veterans; Cincinnati’s Louse; and Pizz. Things get harder on Saturday with hardcore/metal band Punching Moses (the one we’re familiar with)who’ve been around a while and whose members will be familiar to those in their scene; “dark sonic nihilists” Axioma; and Nuclae, featuring noted Cleveland hardcore veteran Aaron Melnick.

Things wrap up on Sunday with soulful/hip-hop-influenced and danceable sounds from OG Vern, Armand Rashad, King Space and Clechay.

All the shows are all ages.
