Sat 12/7@ 8PM
It’s not quite the last of the monthly Bainbridge Swing Dances for 2024 — they’ve got a special edition dance on New Year’s Eve. But it’s the last of the regular Saturday evening dances, an opportunity of people of all ages and all levels of dancing experience and skills to come together on the dance floor for an evening of fun, socializing and great live music.
Each dance kicks off at 8pm with a lesson to orient those who’ve never done this before and to allow more experienced dancers to brush up a bit and help the beginners. Two hours of dancing starts at 9 with a great regional band providing the music each month. This month it’s Toledo’s Hepcat Revival, who’ll be extremely familiar to regulars. The seven-piece ensemble has been performing for regional crowds for more than 25 years, playing music popularized by such ’40s/’50s jump blues/jazz/swing shouters as Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway and Big Joe Turner, widely considered to be the direct precursors of rock & roll. They dress to reflect that era too.
You don’t have to bring a partner — you can come alone or with your family (the event is kid-friendly) — everyone switches partners all evening so you’ll get to dance with and meet a lot of new people. The dance takes place at the Family Life Center in Chagrin Falls. Go here for more information.
