Fri 12/20 & Sat 12/21 @ 7:30PM
The Cleveland Chamber Choir has planned two evenings of music headlined by a composition that only indirectly reflected on the Christmas season. David Lang won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Music for this The Little Match Girl Passion based on the 1845 Hans Christian Anderson tale which uses the story as an allegory for Christ’s suffering. It’s a bleak story (the Little Match Girl freezes to death) infused with hope. The performance will include new connective music by local composer Tom Lopez. And it will be prefaced by holiday music from various traditions, and include visual contributions from students at the Cleveland School of the Arts.
Both performances will take place at the Cleveland School of the Arts, with a pre-concert talk at 6:45 by Dr. Charles Edward McGuire of Oberlin Conservatory. Get tickets here.
