We always joke about how many opportunities there are to hear Cleveland’s soulful, bluesy rockin’ ensemble Apostle Jones, with its elastic membership and its charismatic frontman, Mikey Silas, who on his own appears on another hundred gigs annually (well, it seems like it). We heard them this year at Brite Winter, Juneteenth, Pride in the CLE, BAYarts’ Moondance, Wade Oval Wednesday, Election Night at the Beachland and probably a few other times we’ve forgotten. But honestly, any time you have a chance to hear this creative, high-energy band, you should.
For their holiday special, they’re hosting two nights at the Beachland Ballroom called the Apostle Jones: A Holiday Special, In the Spirit of Togetherness, and “special” is what these nights are sure to be. The group is reprising a set-up they explored last year, filling the room with couches and other comfortable furniture to simulate a sort of large-scale family party, with special featured guests joining the band each night.
“The challenge of recreating last year’s one-of-a-kind show is only outmatched by that joy of knowing the real magic is the beauty of the music and the community that comes together —and this year has that and more,” says Mikey. “We are here for the holiday magic!”
Tickets are $15 each night, but if you can’t get enough of them (and some of us can’t) you can go both nights for $25.
