Amber Ford graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2016 and hit the ground running. Within just three years she’d been in shows at the Morgan Conservatory, Zygote Press, the Cleveland Print Room, the Transformer Station, SPACES, the Yards Project, The Temple-Tifereth Israel, Heights Arts, Ursuline College’s Wasmer Gallery, the Gallery at Lakeland and the CAN Triennial.
Since then, that list has probably tripled as she keeps coming up with new aspects of the community to explore with her craft and vision, and presenting them to the public. She expanded her photography-based practice into other mediums including printmaking, video and collage, while building a career in commercial and portrait photographer. Just this year, she’s been awarded an Assembly for the Arts Creative Impact Fund grant and the Cleveland Arts Prize.
She’s also preparing for a move to Chicago where she’s planning to go to grad school and undoubtedly share her work on a larger canvas. Before she goes though, she’s got a solo show coming up at the Foothill Galleries in Cleveland Heights. It will feature work from many areas of her career (though not all: that would be a heavy lift considering what she’s done in less than a decade): still lifes, hairstyles, and her recent work using a digital loom. The show opens with a free public reception on Thursday November 11 and will be on view through December.
