Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls has been hosting its eagerly anticipated annual juried art show for more than 50 years — this year’s show, opening this weekend, is its 53rd.
Soliciting works by artists within a 250-mile radius, the trio of jurors (this year, former Gingko Gallery owner Liz Burgess, Canton Museum of Art Curator of Exhibitions Christy Davis and artist Aaron D. Williams) chooses less than 60 works out of hundreds submitted. With nothing to go on but the work itself, the final group encompasses everyone from students to veteran artists, in a dizzying range of mediums and artistic styles. In addition, it awards $3,500 in prizes, announced during the reception.
The show opens with a free, public reception on Friday November 8 from 5-8pm with awards announced at 7pm. It’s on view through December 16.
