In the summer, speed demons and thrill seekers can head out to Cedar Point in Sandusky for their hit of adrenalin. But where can you go to get that excitement in the winter? Try the toboggan chutes at Cleveland Metroparks’ Mill Stream Run Reservation. The twin 700-foot chutes — the longest chutes in Ohio — with their 70-foot drop reach speeds of up to 50 miles an hour. So they can give you at least a taste of those summertime thrills.

The refrigerated chutes are open weekends through Sunday February 23, weather permitting, operating in most weather except for extreme conditions (temperatures below zero or over 50, heavy rain). They also run expanded hours over the holidays. With the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, they’ll be open every day from Friday December 20 through Saturday January 4. And yes, that includes New Year’s Day. Check their website for times.

Advance reservations are required, which you can make here. It’s an especially good idea to make them early over the holidays when families are all looking for things too. All riders must be at least 42” tall and wear gloves or mittens. You’ll get a timed ticket but once you’re checked in you can keep on tobogganing under close. The Chalet will be open, and there are restrooms and concessions available.
