Renovare Music Looks at Black Maternal & Infant Mortality Through the Arts

Thu 11/21 @ 7:30PM

The arts and social justice come together in a special program by Renovare Music called “Embrace,” taking place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center.

It’s no secret that some parts of Cuyahoga County have worse maternal and pregnancy outcomes than some third-world countries, with black women 2.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, and black infants 4.6 times more likely to die than white infants. “Embrace” addresses these appalling statistics in instrumental music, original songs, poetry and storytelling., written by community members. Guest artists include poet/playwright/spoken word artist Nailah Muhammad aka Vision, vocalist Salina Turner, musician Fred Clark, artist/musician/yoga & mindfulness teacher/doula LaToya Kent, as member of Cleveland ensemble Mourning [A] BLKStar.

The one-hour program will be followed by a panel discussion responding to the performances. It’s free; RSVP here.
