The period instrument chamber orchestra Relic Ensemble presents its early music in themed programs that help audiences access it through narrative connections or “chapters.” They’re newcomers to the early music scene, founded in 2022, but they’ve already self-produced concerts across the east coast and Midwest.
The group will be at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Ohio City facility, the Transformer Station, performing their program “Into the Underworld.”
“Relic journeys into the underworld, where darkness dwells and mysterious creatures lurk,” says the program’s description. “Featuring music from Orphean operas and other works that span two centuries and five nationalities, this program depicts an archetypal and deeply human passage into the heart of darkness and, ultimately, back to the light with pieces by Monteverdi, Telemann, Campra, and others.”
