This week, the Cleveland Orchestra kicks off its Beethoven Piano Concerto Cycle at Severance Music Center. First up is the 1803 Triple Concerto, requiring three solo instruments: piano, violin and cello. Thirty-seven-year-old German pianist Igor Levit is the pianist throughout the performances; he’s joined on the triple concerto by cellist Julia Hagen and violinist Augustin Hadelich. He’ll also be featured in the opening program on Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 from 1800. They’ll be performed on November 6 and 7.
Then on Saturday November 9 and Tuesday November 12, Levit will again join the orchestra for two more Beethoven concertos, No. 2 and No. 4. Both programs are conducted by TCO music director Franz Welser-Möst.
