Back in 2018, editor/artist Scott Kraynak compiled a book called heART of Cleveland which featured the work of 70 artists of all kinds from the greater Cleveland area. That included painters, graphic artists, printmakers, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, poets, a chef and a punk rock musician.
Now he’s published a second in which he’s attempted to get even more cultural and ethnic diversity among the contributors. And some of the artists from the first book did portraits of other area artists that inspire them.
To go with the book’s release, HEDGE Gallery at 78th Street Studios is doing an exhibit featuring work by about 50 of the contributors, a kaleidoscope of Cleveland art, hung salon-style. They’re a diverse group including such well-known artists as Tim Herron, Asia Armour, Zach Hoon, Liz Maugans, Sarah Curry, Anastasia Pantsios, Judy Takacs, Barbara Stanczak, Douglas Max Utter, Karen Petkovic, Eileen Dorsey, Gary Dumm, George Kocar, Stephen Calhoun, Herb Ascherman, Steve Cagan, and Kraynak himself. It even includes a few artists who have passed away and who are very much missed, such as Stephen Bivens and John W. Carlson.
There’ll be a preview showing on Wednesday November 13, with the regular opening Friday November 15 during Third Friday. It’ll be on view through December 28.
