Local Musicians Perform a Tribute to “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”

Wed 12/4 @ 8PM

The 1998 stage musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as well as the 2001 film based on, became a huge cult favorite, with its gender-bending storyline and its glam/punk-infused music. In fact it was Cleveland Public Theatre’s production of the show more than 20 years ago that spawned Cleveland glam rockers Vanity Crash: the band’s frontman Dennis Van Crash was part of the show’s band. Like most cult movies/shows, it has had a long afterlife.

This week that afterlife stretches into a Hedwig and the Angry Inch tribute at the Beachland Tavern, performed by a band called 45 Ballerinas. While it’s billing itself as a “supergroup,” that only seems to mean “members of different local bands.” Joshua Nelson handles vocals and keyboards, with Angelisa Crognale on guitar and vocals, Steph Burke on guitar and Becky McMahon on drums (all from a group called Life Magnetic) and Brenda Foreman on bass and vocals.

They’ll be joined by synth pop/industrial-style band Deadweight Date.
