Les Delices Program Features Groundbreaking Composers of the 14th Century

Sat 11/23 @ 7:30PM

Sun 11/24 @ 4PM

Cleveland early music ensemble Les Délices calls its next program “14th Century Avant Garde,” and it aims to show that today’s music isn’t the only groundbreaking music — that composers of the distant past were also thinking out of the box. They tell us that 14th century composers such as Guillaume de Machaut, Jacob Senleches, and Johannes Suzoy “displayed unparalleled freedom of thought, fearlessly explored rhythmic complexity, and pushed the limits of what was possible to both notate and perform.”

The program, which features mezzo-soprano Sophie Michaux, tenor James Reese, Scott Metcalfe on vielle & Gothic harp and Les Délices artistic director Debra Nagy on recorders, douçaines, harp and voice, will be performed three times: at the First Congregational Church of Hudson on Friday; at Inlet Dance’s space at the Pivot Center on Saturday; and at Disciples Christian Church on Sunday where Metcalfe will do a pre-concert talk at 3:15pm.
