It’s a great weekend for silent film buffs, with two opportunities to see films that enthralled and amused moviegoers 100 years ago.
On Saturday at the Cleveland Museum of Art Cinematheque, you can see the 1925 documentary Grass, about the nomadic Bakhtiari people of western Persia (Iran) as they migrate looking for pastureland for their animals. It’s considered to be one of the earliest documentaries. The screening will feature live original music performed by Mahtab Nadalian on santour, a Persian instrument similar to a dulcimer. Get tickets here.
On Sunday, the Cleveland Silent Film Festival & Colloquium hosts a family-friendly holiday matinee of classic comedy shorts including Laurel & Hardy’s Big Business and Buster Keaton’s One Week, among others. Pianist Dr. Philip Carli will be playing live to accompany the films at the Heights Theatre on Coventry. Go here for tickets.
